POSITION SUMMARY

The 340B Medication Purchasing Specialist is responsible for contributing to Adelante’s medication purchasing integrity. This includes but is not limited to participating in related projects/initiatives, compliance, auditing, training, vendor selection and medication management related to the purchasing of medications for Adelante Healthcare.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician and/or Certified Medical Assistant, required. Certified Pharmacy Technicians must be in good standing with Arizona State Board of Pharmacy and remain so for their duration of employment with Adelante Healthcare.
  • Three (3) + years of medication management and purchasing experience.
  • Two to three years of experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • 340B experience strongly preferred.
  • Excel experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to translate data into a quality analysis.
  • Self-motivated, action-oriented, strong drive with the ability to make decisions, act independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Medication insurance billing and medication claim submission experience.
  • Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations).
  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations.

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of the inventory purchasing process for clinic medication rooms.
  • Educate others involved in the purchasing process to ensure proper operation and compliance.
  • Request price quotes, facilitate purchasing proposals and contract negotiations, and procure supplies.
  • Process requisitions and issue purchase orders, expedite deliveries, resolve receiving and invoicing issues or problems.
  • Monitor ordering processes, integrating the most current pricing from wholesalers.
  • Analyze invoices, shipping, and inventory process.
  • Comply with all track-and-trace legal requirements of the Drug Supply Security Act for purchasing and distribution of drug products.
  • Manage existing contracts and supplier relations.
  • Manage drug selection, procurement, and inventory control, including:
    • Manage purchasing, receiving, and inventory control.
    • Continually monitor product par levels to effectively balance product availability and cost-effective inventory control.
    • Perform annual inventory and monthly cycle counts.
  • Prepare and assists in the monitoring, tracking and reporting measurements to ensure compliance with the 340B program.
  • Provide each buyer with information needed to place orders using the appropriate account (e.g. WAC, 340B, Non-340B).
  • Track trends and reports on 340B purchase data to insure provider/physician and patient eligibility, and review ineligibility reports.
  • Monitor purchasing records for each 340B participant; clearly documents utilization, savings, problem areas, and exceptions or discrepancies. Relays results to leadership.
  • Monitor for 340B pricing exclusions or shortages and establishes appropriate alternative products that are included when possible, including working with medical staff and formulary to ensure proper position and related use.
  • Participate with the Prime Vendor and routinely reviews 340B formulary pricing and potential alternatives.
  • Manage and track 340B drug inventory, including proper replenishment.
  • Review contract pharmacy purchases for usage and program compliance.

  • Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and may occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
